The Walkmen: 'You & Me' and charity

Radiohead allowed fans to pay any they wanted for its new album, In Rainbows. Nine Inch Nails went one better by giving away The Slip for free on its Web site.

Whats adjacent in the world of innovative on-line album firing marketing?

Charitable causes, according to the Walkmen.

The New York indie band recently released its new allbum, You & Me, through AmieStreet.coms Download To Make a Difference Campaign. The payoff go to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Joy Fund, which provides amusement and activities for patients.

The Walkmens charitable gesture is in the name of 7-month-old Luca Vasallo, wHO is battling AML leukaemia at the New York-based hospital.

(Vasallo is) doing a great job fighting a very difficult disease, said the Walkmens Peter Bauer in a statement. This is a very good formation that surely deserves the attention.

Talk just about guilt-tripping downloaders into not stealing.

The superiority mp3 download of You & Me costs $5; AmieStreet.com will donate every penny to the causal agency. The album, already generating strong reviews, will be released in traditional formats through Gigantic Music on Aug. 18.

Catch the Walkmen at the Middle East in Cambridge on Sept. 18. For more on Vasallos fight against leukaemia, go to loveforluca.com.

Moz on delay

Morrissey fans dont incisively need another reason to mope more or less like theyre suffering from a freaky throat infection, but they got one last week.

Billboard reported the release of Mozzers new album, Years of Refusal, will be delayed until sometime in 2009. No reason for the delay was tending by Morrisseys publicists, only it could have something to do with the recent head hemorrhage and hospitalization of producer Jerry Finn.

Originally expected to drop next month, Years of Refusal will be Morrisseys Polydor Records debut. The album is expected to be a bit more rocking than recent efforts and share some guitar work DNA with Mozs hard-edged 1995 release Southpaw Grammar.

Looks like well take in to expect and see.
